All student visa applications will be handled by the University. All you need to do is file the Additional Information for Student Visa Application form and send it to HKBU along with a copy of your passport. It will normally take around 6-8 weeks for the Immigration Department to process an application before sending the visa to you by post.
The Hong Kong Baptist University’s Graduate Housing Office offers a limited number of on-campus housing options, as well as nearby off-campus apartments for students.
With the substantial subsidy from the University, the Health Services Centre provides medical and dental services to the University community. The Centre’s Medical Clinic and Dental Clinic are operated by two medical groups under contracts with the University. The Centre is located on Level 5, Sir Run Run Shaw Building, Ho Sin Hang Campus.
The University’s Group Travel Insurance policy automatically covers overseas trip which are organized or recognized by HKBU for up to 185 days. Students are required to extend the insurance at their own expenses if the duration of trip is over 185 days.
The most convenient and cheapest way for you to get to HKBU from the airport is by taking Citybus. Ask the Information Desk or follow the signs to get to the Airport Bus Centre (Ground Transportation Centre). Route E22 heading for Lam Tin (North) takes you straight to HKBU. Just get off at the bus stop at Kam Shing Road.
If you are coming to HKBU from Mainland China, you may first arrive at Shenzhen and enter Hong Kong through three checkpoints, Huanggang Checkpoint (24-hour), Futian Checkpoint (6:40-22:30), and Luohu Checkpoint (6:00-24:00). We recommend you to go through Futian or Luohu Checkpoint, where you can take the MTR East Rail Line to Kowloon Tong Station.
The Octopus Card is a stored-value smartcard used throughout Hong Kong instead of money, saving you the trouble of carrying loads of small change. Make sure you get a Student Octopus Card upon arrival. It will save you a good sum of money when taking the MTR as students enjoy concessionary rates. The card can also be used at convenient stores such as 7-11 and OK, supermarkets, bakeries and many other places.
If you stay in Hong Kong for more than 6 months, you need to obtain a Hong Kong Identity Card. You must apply in person at any of the Registration of Persons Offices, Immigration Department. Their addresses and working hours can be found at here.

After you have obtained your temporary HKID card from the Immigration Department, you are required to submit one photocopy to the Graduate School immediately. You should also send them a photocopy of your original HKID card when it is available.
Two banks have branch offices on the HKBU campus – Hang Seng Bank on Ho Sin Hang campus and Bank of East Asia on the Baptist University Road Campus. Automated teller machines (ATM’s) are also available near the entrance to the library.
