Journalism students host the Global News Relay

The Department of Journalism (JOUR) organised the Global News Relay for the first time this year. Participating JOUR students have been communicating and coordinating with students around the world at 15 universities since the start of the semester and produced a joint newscast for online live broadcast on 11 April.

The Global News Relay is a student-run annual news show. Every year, journalism schools from around the world are invited to produce a newscast based on a theme. With JOUR as the host, each university produced its own newscast and sent it to HKBU for broadcasting.

The theme for this year’s newscast was migration. Many meaningful stories were produced, including news segments covering Afghan refugees seeking asylum in Indonesia, Mainland migrants in Hong Kong, Mexican farmers in California and Texas, and Syrian migrants in Canada.
